A passing @ 03:35 pm

Current Mood: respectful

Peter Kennedy, son of Douglas Kennedy (student of Cecil Sharp), and folk collector in his own right, passed away Saturday. He'd been ill with cancer for some time.

I met Peter Kennedy once in the late 1990's. I was totally blown away by the amount of information contained in one human being.

My copy of his Folksongs of Britain and Ireland is the flagstaff of my music collection.

Hi everyone! Hey chlomar sorry it took me so long to get here. Anyway, I was thinking today about a great idea I have for this community.

What do you all say if once a week (every Sunday for example, just because today is a Sunday), we all post a link to a dance, song, site that we think is relevant to CDSS and what the organization stands for? You could also post original material you've composed, dances, songs, tunes, poems, whatever. It can sort of be like our own personal CDSS newsletter.

I'll start, here's a classic: Petronella

So what do all think, sound like a good idea? Alternatively not everyone wants to find something to post, I'd gladly do it alone.

A few times in my life, I have thought that contra dancing was more fun than English, but those times have been very rare.  Is it just because I've mostly lived in Philadelphia?

Hello everyone! Are you a member of CDSS? Why or why not? What kind of traditional dance, music, and/or song do you participate in?
